Human Basics
Throughout history, our bodies have been a favorite canvas for artists. From way back in prehistoric times to today, paintings and statues have showcased the human form. Both men and women have been depicted in the buff, often symbolically representing complex ideas.
The naked body, stripped down and raw, becomes a tool for exploring light, shape, and meaning. It’s loaded with connotations—eroticism, strength, spirituality, gender, and more. Think about the classics like Michelangelo’s sculptures or Caravaggio’s paintings, all the way to modern photographers like Mapplethorpe and Herb Ritts.
In some Middle Eastern societies, nudity gets tied to vulgarity and porn. But as artists, it’s on us to smash those stereotypes. I’m personally drawn to the male body, and in my art, I aim to capture the raw emotions and movements of its anatomy.
